Maldives is located in south west of India in the Indian Ocean. Maldives has gained its name as one of the favorite tourist destination in the world. Environment
Maldives has a rich marine eco-system. These marine-ecosystem combine over 2000 types of fishes ranging of reef fishes. Global warming and rampant pollution are becoming major threats to the environment of the Maldives. However coral bleaching and inappropriate disposal of rubbish is also threatening the ecological system of Maldives.
Language
The official language of Maldivian people is Dhivehi, which is unique and spoken and written only by Maldivians. However, English is very popular and widely spoken in Maldives.
The local language expert’s say’s that the origin the Maldivian language is formed an indo Aryan Language. Our alphabet written from right to left has traces of influence from our neighboring countries like India and Sri Lanka.
Weather and Climate
The Maldives has a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round and a great deal of sunshine, with average temperature between 24C (75F) and 33C(91F) year round. The weather is determined largely by the monsoon; the southwest monsoon from May to November and the Northeast monsoon from December to April is mostly dry with very little wind.
The dry season known as the Iruvai Monsoon, December to April. The dry season subjected as regular sunshine and less rain season. And the wet season known as “Hulhangu” Monsoon, may to November, which is experienced a rainy days. However the wet season offer number of sunshine days as similer to dry monsoon. The average temperature range is 24C to 32C.
The hottest month on average is April and the coolest is December. February is the driest with December to April being relatively dry. The Maldives is in the equatorial spot and therefore severe storms are rear.
